Welcome to NY Pain Solutions: Serving Patients in Norwood, The Bronx, New York City, NY

At NY Pain Solutions, we understand that living with pain can be a daily struggle that affects every aspect of your life. That’s why Dr. Mikhail Kogan and Dr. Sekhar Upadhyayula, our double-board-certified interventional pain management specialists, are dedicated to providing the residents of Norwood and the surrounding areas of The Bronx with state-of-the-art treatments designed to alleviate pain and improve quality of life.
Norwood is a vibrant community within The Bronx, known for its rich history and cultural diversity. It’s home to landmarks such as the Williamsbridge Oval, which provides a green oasis for relaxation and recreation amidst the bustling city life. This neighborhood’s resilience and spirit mirror our commitment to helping our patients overcome their pain challenges.

Our Approach to Pain Management

We believe in a comprehensive approach to pain management that goes beyond temporary fixes. Our team uses advanced diagnostic techniques to pinpoint the source of your pain, whether it’s elbow pain from sports injuries or hip pain from osteoarthritis. We understand that conditions like hip bursitis or sympathetic pain can stem from various factors unique to each individual.
In Norwood, where community members lead active lives despite the urban setting, conditions such as pelvic pain, abdominal pain, and tailbone pain can significantly hinder daily activities. We also address common complaints among our patients in The Bronx like shoulder pain, knee pain, neck pain, hand and wrist pain, as well as lower back issues affecting the cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine, sacrum and coccyx.

Tailored Treatments for Musculoskeletal Conditions

Our expertise extends to treating musculoskeletal problems affecting shoulder joints, hip joints, hand and wrist components, foot and ankle joints – all crucial for navigating the energetic streets of Norwood. We offer innovative procedures like Stellate Ganglion Block for sympathetic mediated pain relief and Lumbar Sympathetic Block for complex regional pain syndromes.
For those suffering from chronic conditions such as sciatica or radiculopathy in Norwood’s aging buildings with their characteristic walk-up apartments – where stairs can be a daily challenge – we provide targeted treatments like RACZ Caudal Neurolysis and Percutaneous Discectomy.

Innovative Techniques in Interventional Pain Management

NY Pain Solutions is at the forefront of interventional techniques including Spinal Cord Stimulator implants for persistent low back pain and Lumbar Endoscopic Discectomy for herniated discs – conditions prevalent in urban environments where repetitive stress and injury are common.
We also specialize in regenerative medicine therapies like Trigger Point Injections With Platelets Rich Plasma to promote healing in damaged tissues. For those seeking alternatives to traditional painkiller medications – an important consideration given The Bronx’s efforts to combat opioid misuse – we offer Medical Marijuana consultations under New York State regulations.

Advanced Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services

Our facility is equipped with cutting-edge technology such as Ultrasound-Guided Trigger Point Injections for precise treatment delivery. We perform Electromyography (EMG) tests to diagnose conditions like peripheral neuropathy and diabetic neuropathy – significant concerns within Norwood’s diverse population with varying health care needs.
For residents experiencing fat pad atrophy of the foot due to the neighborhood’s hilly terrain or those needing relief from chronic neck pain while working at local businesses along Bainbridge Avenue or Jerome Avenue, we provide tailored solutions including Epidurals, Facet Injections, Radiofrequency Ablations, Sacroiliac Injections, and Peripheral Nerve Stimulator implants.

What Our Customers Say

I come here with some neck and back issues for Pain management. The wait room is very small so they only sit patients in the main area. The family is expected to sit in another area. The wait time is so long for injections. Be prepared to spend most of your day there on an empty stomach. Dr Sekhar is the best. He consults you and answers any concerns you may have. After the procedure, they give you little juices. After sitting for awhile the doctor comes and evaluates your pain to see if the injection worked. You make your follow up appointment and you're done.

-Tajuana

I saw Dr.Kogan at Pain Solutions for my spinal stenosis. He administered epidurals with anesthesia, so Dr. Sekhar had to work on that which meant I had 2 md's billing. Oddly enough, when I received the same epidural from Dr. Kogan at his other location (NYU Langone - Forest Hills) where Dr. Sekhar did not practice, Dr. Kogan administered the epidural by himself without the use of anesthesia. There were no problem, and since there was no anesthesia to recover from, I was free to leave right away. I submitted my insurance information but they did not bother to get clearance. It turns out my insurance was only accepted at the NYU-Langone location. But I never received a bill.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

What qualifications should I look for in an interventional pain management doctor?
FAQ Answer: Look for a board-certified interventional pain management specialist with experience in treating your specific type of pain. They should have completed a residency in pain medicine, anesthesia, or neurology, followed by a fellowship in pain management. Additionally, check for state licensure and consider their approach to patient care, including the use of multidisciplinary treatment plans.
How does an interventional pain management doctor differ from other pain specialists?
FAQ Answer: An interventional pain management doctor uses minimally invasive techniques such as nerve blocks, steroid injections, and advanced procedures like spinal cord stimulation to treat pain. Unlike other specialists who may focus on medication management or physical therapy, interventional specialists are trained to perform procedures that directly target the source of pain.
What conditions do interventional pain management doctors treat?
FAQ Answer: These specialists treat a variety of conditions, including chronic back and neck pain, sciatica, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), neuropathic pain, and more. They often treat patients for whom conservative treatments have failed to provide adequate relief.
What should I expect during my first visit to an interventional pain management practice?
FAQ Answer: During your first visit, the doctor will review your medical history, perform a physical examination, and may order diagnostic tests such as MRIs or X-rays. They will discuss your pain symptoms, previous treatments, and how the pain affects your daily life. Then, they will outline a personalized treatment plan.
How do I prepare for a procedure with an interventional pain management doctor?
FAQ Answer: Preparation may include fasting for a certain period before the procedure, temporarily stopping certain medications, and arranging for transportation home. Your doctor will provide specific instructions based on the procedure you're undergoing. Always inform your doctor of all medications and supplements you're taking.
Will my insurance cover visits to an interventional pain management doctor?
FAQ Answer: Many insurance plans cover interventional pain management treatments, but coverage varies depending on the specific procedure and your insurance policy. Prior to your visit, check with your insurance provider to understand your coverage, and confirm with the pain management practice if they accept your insurance.
